A brief look at rigid gas permeable contact

Everybody knows what a contact lens is. Shortly, that is an object that helps the eye to focus better. It is a relative new invention, so we don’t know too much about it, but scientists do their best to ensure for us a better sight.

Not long ago, there were only monofocal eye contact lenses, made out of hard materials, that didn’t allow the eye to breath, and it was very hard to adept to them.

Times have changed luckily, so now we have multifocal eye contact lenses, that are made of soft materials and they are gas permeable.Lets see what gas permeable means: gas permeable means, that the lens is made out of such a material, that it lets the oxygen reach the eyeball, so the eye can breathe. This is an important invention, because until now gas permeable materials weren’t transparent, so it was impossible to make lenses out of them.

These lenses are smaller than the soft ones. This is because they are rigid, so they stay better on the eye. Of course, there are good and bad attributes, too. RGP (Rigid Gas Permeable) lenses make vision better, they are smaller, they let the eye breathe, they don’t loose their form when you blink, like soft ones and they are very durable. Bad thing about RGP-s is that the eye needs a long time to get used to it. You need to wear them almost every day, so your eyes can adept to them. Also some people experience blurry vision after removing the lenses, but this is temporary. Another disadvantage of these eye contact lenses is that they need care. Because you wear them for long, you have to take care of them better and more often.

If you are looking for cheap contacts for short time, the RGP lenses are not the best solution. In spite of that they are cheap contact lenses, the soft contacts are cheaper and deliver almost the same quality in the short run.

If someone needs a contact for longer time, the RGP lenses are the cheap lenses that he or she is looking for. To remain at the comparison, a common thing in soft and RGP lenses is, that they are disposable contacts. A disposable contact lens is a lens, what can be thrown out after a period of use, mostly after one week. Soft lenses last a short time, so they deserve the disposable contacts naming. Rigid contacts last longer, and are used for longer, but in terminology “disposable” refers to longer lasting lenses, too. This means, that a lens what needs replacing monthly, or quarterly is a disposable contact lens, too. To determine the rigid gas permeable lenses in one sentence, they are disposable contacts that anybody needs for a longer time, who wants to buy cheap contacts.
